How often are we told to upgrade?
Whether it’s our gadgets, cars or other items, we are constantly advised to upgrade, but when should we? When is it actually worth upgrading and when is it a little bit of a time waster.
Here are a few quick points to look out for to ensure you’re being as efficient as possible with your time – upgrading only when you need to!
How much does it cost to upgrade?
That should be one of the first questions you ask.
Sometimes even if it’s free it could cost you time which we know can be as valuable as money in the market today.
Your time or the time spent by an employee may be better used elsewhere.
Not only do you need to worry about initial cost but also be wary that you may be bothered with bugs or other setbacks if you just upgrade products purely based on them being free.
You should check the age of the item you are being marketed to upgrade.
If you’ve had it for absolutely ages and haven’t upgraded it then it may be the time for you to do so.
Otherwise issues can later occur such as the product not being supported anymore such as Act!
Pro and Premium v17 that are coming to end of life.
However, if you have upgraded it 6 months ago and there is another upgrade due it may be better to wait and see whether it’s worth it or not.
The features of the item may be upgraded or completely new but it’s important to be aware of how it will impact your workflow and efficiency.
Sometimes there are bug fixes that we just find a way around which is not always a bad thing.
Upgrading because there’s a fix for something you’ve already semi-fixed again may be a waste of time and you may be better waiting till the following upgrade where the features may be worth it.
Furthermore, the time spent figuring out the use or how to use features again may be more of strain than help.
Being aware of what other people think about the upgrades is always useful.
Blogs, reviews and other sources of unbiased opinions can help you make that final choice.
Other users or competitors using the same product will speak honestly about the product – either saving you the time or helping you make the decision to upgrade.
To conclude always judge the upgrade as maybe every upgrade offered to you is not worth it either due to time, money or the actual upgrade itself.
It’s always worth researching because even if the information isn’t valuable to you immediately it may be in the future and it will always be in your best interest.
