Why running is good for business

The Great Run Company

We live in an age of corporate social responsibility and an expectation from employees that the workplace is no longer just somewhere to simply arrive, work and leave.

It has become an all-encompassing thing, with employers now keen to keep their staff fit and well by providing a gym on site, organising events and initiative to get the workforce moving.

A more active workforce is a happier workforce, and happy employees mean – well, I’m sure you can do the maths.

Of course, not all employers have the means or the environment to provide on-site gyms or running tracks on the roof, so there’s a much simpler option – running.

It’s one of the easiest activities to take up, all you need is a pair of running shoes and a bit of determination.

From running on your lunch hour to organising a running meeting, the opportunities are vast and the rewards are great.

We at the Great Run Company organise events across the UK with more than 230,000 participants annually.

We also offer businesses the chance to compete at our events as part of the Business Challenge – and there’s two opportunities to do so in Birmingham in 2018.

The Business Challenge sees businesses battle it out to be crowned the best small, medium and large companies, and will be staged at this year’s Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10K on Sunday, 6 May, and at the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run on Sunday, 14 October.

Companies can enter male, female or mixed teams of 4-8 runners to compete for the trophy awarded to the fastest small, medium and large businesses across the categories.

There are prizes to the first three teams in each category (male, female and mixed team). Accumulated first four finishing times in each team will count.

Top two male and top two female results in a mixed team will count. An engraved trophy will be awarded for the winning team in each Business Size category (Small, Medium and Large).

The top three teams in each team type category will receive an engraved plaque, while every company that enters 12 or more employees will receive their own personalised company engraved plaque.

And, even better, if entries are purchased as a business transaction you are able to claim back VAT.

The Business Challenge does exactly what it says on the tin – it challenges businesses to be the best in the city, it gets staff fitter and healthier and brings people together.

Even if you’re not the best business, taking part in this makes you a winner. For more information on the Business Challenge at the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10K, click here.
