Blue Cross
Here at Blue Cross Bromsgrove we’ve barely slowed down as we hit 2018, but wanted to take a moment to share some of our highlights of 2017 with you.
In total Bromsgrove rehoming centre helped 226 cats, 176 dogs and 2 hamsters find happy homes in 2017.
Pets like Bonnie who came to us heavily pregnant when sadly her owner found themselves homeless.
She went on to have five healthy pups who kept the team on their toes until it was time to rehome them, and quite unusually Bonnie was reserved before all the pups.
They all started 2018 in their new homes and we love receiving updates on how they are doing. A huge part of who we are and what we do involves our volunteers.
We recruited 88 new volunteers to add to a team who in total gave 16,198 hours to the centre.
This covered everything from working on reception and cleaning to pet care and fundraising.
On average we log 114 active volunteers a month and volunteers can give anything from a couple of hours a week; although one volunteer logged a whopping 945 hours!
Whilst our volunteers do come and go, we were delighted to congratulate several volunteers who in 2017 celebrated ten years with the centre. Of course we can’t do what we do without fundraising.
It takes a great deal of money to keep the centre running and we both hold our own events at the centre as well as regularly attending markets, fetes and shows in the local area.
Our annual Summer Fund Day is a huge local attraction and in 2017 we raised over £8,000!
In total the centre raised over £24,000 through a combination of our own events and local supporters organising their own fundraisers.
However I’m sure that you can appreciate this doesn’t go far when it costs the centre 4-6 times more than we charge in rehoming fees to care for pets during their stay with us.
If you would like to find out more about how you can support us and the pets in our care, please contact tina.burdett@bluecross.org.uk to discuss some of the many ways in which we could work together.
