Meta4 Business Coaching
Are you listening to your body? I recently had a strategy session with a small business owner- let’s call her Jane - who was, literally, in physical pain from her business.
Jane is so passionate and invested in her business and so committed that she has developed an overwhelming need to do a great job.
She endeavours to be an understanding, approachable boss and to deliver excellent service to her customers (around the clock!).
This was causing her to strive, and fail of course, at a completely illusive level of perfection.
This complete and utter dedication to her business was causing her sleepless nights, a strained relationship with her husband, a tense relationship with her family and the onset of a potentially serious illness.
Her body was giving her all the signs to slow down but she didn’t know how….
The saddest thing of all, Jane’s business is doing well.
Could be doing slightly better, but couldn’t it always…?
Running a small business, there’s always something to improve on, develop, refresh and so on.
But she had a good team, a great customer base, good pipeline and strong accounts.
It was clear to see from the outside that with a few tweaks here and there and she would have the holy grail of what she is seeking - balance, control and peace of mind.
The secret to her success would be finding a way to let go.
Starting to train staff, share responsibilities and eventually delegate to her team were the first steps towards what Jane and the business needed.
Her self-inflicted levels of ‘I-must-be-the-very-best-at-everything-at-all-times’ were causing physical pain to her body through huge levels of stress, disappointment and ultimately failure.
Only a robot could handle the expectations she was putting on herself.
It’s not an overnight process but talking through the challenges with her business coach, someone with an objective ear, enabled her to see and hear the unachievable expectations she was placing on herself.
Sound familiar?
Time for a change?
Are you ‘feeling’ the signs?
It is time to put a stop to the self-inflicted pressures of winning in business and life at ALL times?
