Are you a rebel?

Forget about location, location, location. Accountability is Queen. You may believe you know what you need to do to grow your business, you may even be feeling motivated to do so…So why aren’t you going ahead and taking the all-important action? There may be a number of reasons; as an entrepreneur, running a small business, it’s likely you are a ‘rebel.’ It’s a good thing. Being a rebel is associated with innovation and creativity and also with inability to follow instructions. Steve Jobs was a rebel. We are the leaders, the boss, we don’t need to follow – one of the main reasons people go into self-employment.

But we do need to implement. The ideas can always be flowing but if nothing is ever implemented then business will remain as is and eventually go stagnant.

A common challenge for many small business owners, they have many ideas for all the stuff they want to create, plans for where they want to go and who they want to become. But without giving themselves any time to make it happen.

Cultivating your Inner Rebel

It’s easy to get disheartened in business. You are full of great ideas, but business growth is like any other goal, health or fitness for example, if you never move forward, your enthusiasm and motivation eventually start to wane and apathy to business growth kicks in.

One of the most cited reasons business owners use a business coach is for accountability. Each month knowing you will be catching up with someone who will ask, ‘how are you getting on with x’ or ‘what’s happening with y’, are the nudges any rebel needs to actually get on and do it.

Time to get out of your comfort zone and take a different approach to your accountability needs.

What space or person keeps you inspired and motivated?

• Try creating a dedicated workspace alongside others who have a common goal? (as I write this I’m sat silently on a zoom call with 3 others)
• Work outside of your office four walls
• KEEP OFF emails
• Turn your phone off / do not disturb

Treat your business growth actions like you would a paying customer. Never renege on your promises, always treat it with the respect it deserves and give it the time and space it needs. Much like customers, without business development there is no business.
