Telecommunications organisation, BT, spends £296 million with suppliers in the West Midlands, according to a new report.
The report, carried out by independent economics consultancy Hatch Regeneris, also found that BT employs 5,780 people and contributes £1,130 million in GVA to the region,
In the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership area, 1 in every 12 employees in the IT and communications sector was directly employed by the BT Group.
The West Midlands was one of all English regions detailed in the Economic Impact of BT Group plc in the UK report, which found that the group was responsible for generating every £1 in every £75 produced in the UK.
The report includes the contribution of all parts of BT Group, including Openreach, mobile network provider EE and BT’s Consumer and Enterprise divisions.
