SCC develops thermal tech in battle against virus

SCC has developed a thermal fever detector designed to help businesses and organisations in the battle against Covid-19.
Already being extensively tested in hospitals, restaurants and airports across the UK, the detector uses devices ranging from handheld to fixed multi-camera systems to record body temperature and identify anyone displaying signs of fever, with real-time alerts to enable interception and help prevent the spread of virus.
Amid the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, businesses are preparing to resume operations and will be required to demonstrate that proactive measures are in place to safeguard the health and wellbeing of employees and customers.
SCC, Europe's largest IT solutions provider, says that the thermal detector will play a vital part in protecting people and enabling safe social distancing.
The technology can be used in any environment with human traffic and is rapidly being adopted.
At Bournemouth Airport, SCC has installed a mobile thermal temperature detection system, mounted on a tripod in the staff entrance.
This can be monitored by security staff, with signs of high temperatures automatically identified before the employee can socialise with colleagues.
The next deployment phase will see the introduction of a multi-camera system, positioned at each entry point across the airport’s terminal building, in departures and arrivals, enabling border staff to intercept any passengers showing signs of high temperature.
James Rigby, SCC chief executive, said: “When the UK is ready to ease strict lockdown measures, we will see permanent changes to the way we live and work, and all businesses will need to implement new protective measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 and other contagious diseases by reducing the opportunity for transmission.
