Teachers and pupils are being called to join a new sustainability challenge and programme, on offer from water and energy consultancy, technology and engineering firm Enzen.

Science teachers in Birmingham are being urged to sign up to Enzen's Mission: Sustainability 2021 programme, which will provide teachers with resources and knowledge on improving the quality and sustainability of clean water, which can be incorporated into classroom teaching.

The programme was ran as a pilot last year, which included schools receiving cash prizes for teaching equipment and pupils earn plaudits from mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street,

Enzen is now looking for more primary and secondary schools across Birmingham to take part in the 2021 scheme, which will take place from late February.

“The partnership with Enzen transformed the way pupils thought about British Science Week 2020, ” said Tonia Robertson-Rogers, head of STEM at the Lumen Christi Catholic Multi-Academy, which participated in the pilot and whose pupils were celebrated at an online awards featuring Andy Street.

“It turned out to be the best science week we 'd run. It gave us an opportunity to stop, step back, think about how we do things and empower our technicians to innovate. ”

Schools who take part will also participate in a series of Mission: Sustainability challenges for Key Stages 2,3,4 and 5 - a combination of creative, investigative and scientific tasks to see who are the most enterprising and inspired young 'change agents ' in Birmingham.

Entries from across the city will be judged by Enzen leaders for their creativity, knowledge and passion. Winning pupils will be invited to an awards ceremony in Summer 2021 to recognise their achievements, with the top performing schools receiving cash prizes to spend on science teaching.

Manish Jamthe, CEO of Enzen UK, said: “As specialists in energy and water sustainability, Enzen is passionate about using knowledge, collaboration and creativity to protect our planet for future generations. We also believe in listening to the ideas of young people, and were impressed by how enthusiastically the Mission: Sustainability pilot was received in schools during 2020.

“Home to our corporate headquarters, Birmingham was where the Enzen story began in the UK and it 's a community that 's close to our hearts. By sharing our expertise and inspiring pupils about energy and water challenges, Mission: Sustainability aims to deepen Enzen 's relationship with the city and inspire its young people to build a more sustainable, prosperous world for this and future generations. ”

To express your interest in the programme, email mission.sustainability@enzen.com and provide the name, position, school, location and which Key Stage Challenge your school would like to take part in.

The deadline for expressing an interest is 29 January.
