While 14% of the UK population identify as black and minority ethnic (BME), only 1.5% of directors do (Parker Review 2016). While women make up just over 50% of the UK population, they occupy only 26% of board positions (GBDA 2011).

This workshop will discuss the importance of diversity in the board room, the essential skills for future board members and what being a board member involves. Karl will also share his expertise and ground breaking work in the field of corporate governance.

Karl George MBE (business), aka ‘The Governor’
A seasoned non-executive, Karl’s expertise in governance alongside his qualified accountant status makes him a sought after adviser and board member both locally and internationally.
Karl is well respected in the business community, regularly featuring in power lists; was one of the first winners of the Birmingham Young Professional of the Year (BYPY) and among the founders of the Young Directors Forum at the Institute of Directors.
Karl has over twenty years combined experience in accountancy, business and strategic development. He has led accountancy practices as well as serving on a range of boards. He is one of the founders of the Association of Corporate Governance Practitioners (ACGP) and developed a unique governance framework and kitemark that was endorsed by the late Sir Adrian Cadbury.
As Managing Director of The Governance Forum, he now works with CEOs, boards and senior executives across the private, public and voluntary sectors delivering exceptional insight for corporate governance solutions.
