EVENT DESCRIPTION

Businesses have faced unprecedented challenges in 2023 and continue to grapple with the impact of persistent economic shocks, that have already proven to be significant barriers to growth.

Research conducted by the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce highlight the significant pressures that businesses currently face. According to the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce Quarterly Business Report for Q1 of 2023, half of the businesses surveyed across both Manufacturing and Services are expecting to raise their prices in Q2 of 2023. The main reasons cited by businesses for raising prices were labour costs (25%) cost of utilities (23%) and fuel costs (14%).

Indeed, energy efficiency remains a difficult topic for business leaders across the region. As a result, understanding the benefits of energy efficiency measures is vital. As highlighted by the International Energy Agency in their Energy Efficiency 2022 Report, stronger energy efficiency is the best policy to bring down bills.

Join this webinar to understand why energy bills have been persistently high and how businesses are incorporating energy efficiency measures, in response to rising energy bills.

SPEAKERS

Jonny Mobbs, Head of Sustainability, Midland Heart

Since leaving University as a postgraduate Jonny has worked across multiple organisations in private and public sectors leading on environment, energy and net zero strategy. He joined Midland Heart as Head of Sustainability in November 2021, in a new position within the organisation. His role is to lead net zero and sustainability strategy as we focus on being fit for the future today and develop our corporate plan beyond 2025.

Abbie Vlahakis, CEO, Millennium Point

I lead the Millennium Point team, ensuring best practices across both the property company and charitable trust.

Having graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), I spent the next 20 years advising many privately held UK businesses during my time at Grant Thornton and KPMG.

Capitalising on all my experience, I am delighted to now be leading the team at Millennium Point, focusing on driving our commercial strategy as a landlord and events provider, to generate funds to meet our charitable objective of supporting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in the West Midlands.

I am extremely passionate about supporting and promoting STEM and creating as many opportunities as possible to support our future generation of innovators.  The industries of the future are either STEM-focused or underpinned by STEM.  As CEO of Millennium Point, I am determined to inspire more young people to enter STEM roles which will not only have a positive impact on the UK economy but on our young people and their families, with life-changing results.

Growing up in a South Wales mining village, I am hugely aware of the importance of creating opportunities for the next generation, and so I am delighted to be part of a region that will benefit from the great technological advances associated with HS2. With its imminent arrival, there is no better region to recognise and inspire the STEM leaders of the future than the West Midlands.

As well as CEO of Millennium Point, I am also an Academy Representative for Prince Albert High School in Birmingham.

Final speaker to be confirmed.
