Understanding Declarations - smarter strategies for your business

A customs declaration is a formal document submitted to a country's customs authority that outlines key details about goods being imported or exported. It’s a legal requirement designed to ensure compliance with national regulations and the correct payment of duties and taxes.

Accurate completion of a customs declaration is essential for any business engaged in international trade. Critical information such as the description of goods, their value (including cost, insurance, and freight), country of origin, and destination must be clearly and correctly stated.

Our practical session walks you through what needs to be included, why it matters, and how to verify the accuracy of your declarations, helping you stay compliant and avoid costly errors.

Is it for me?

Receiving and checking evidence of both import and export declarations is vital to ensure compliance with international trade but is often an overlooked step by many companies. In this course we look at the importance of this process and how to decipher a customs declaration.

Specifically, we cover:

  • Why it is so important to check customs declarations
  • Understanding the codes used within the declaration
  • Navigate volume 3 of the UK Trade Tariff
  • How to rectify mistakes in a declaration
  • How the declaration can be used to meet evidential requirements

This is an interactive session with plenty of opportunity to ask questions alongside practical activities in breaking down the processes. This course will be delivered online.

No assessment will take place after this course, but delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.
