Reducing import duty costs - smarter strategies for UK businesses

An import duty, also known as a customs duty, is a tax imposed on goods brought into a country. It’s typically calculated as a percentage of the item’s total value, including shipping and insurance, and is collected by customs authorities when goods move across international borders.

These charges serve several purposes: they help regulate trade, protect domestic industries, and generate revenue for the government.

If you're unsure how import duties work or how to calculate them, our easy-to-follow short webinar is the perfect starting point. It breaks down the essentials and gives you the confidence to navigate international trade with ease

Is it for me?

With rising costs impacting importers across the board, finding ways to minimise import duties is more crucial than ever. Fortunately, the UK offers a range of schemes and processes that allow eligible businesses to reduce the amount of duty paid under specific conditions.

This course provides a clear, practical overview of the options available, helping importers understand how to lower duty costs while remaining fully compliant with regulations.

Specifically, we cover:

  • Trade agreements and claiming preference
  • Tariff quotas and suspension schemes
  • Returned goods relief
  • Temporary admission
  • Customs warehousing

This is an interactive session with plenty of opportunity to ask questions alongside practical activities in breaking down the processes. This course will be delivered online.

No assessment will take place after this course, but delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.
