A supply chain is the entire network involved in producing and delivering a product or service—from raw materials to the hands of the customer.
When sending goods overseas or purchasing from abroad, An international supply chain is the series of steps and networks that connect global businesses, suppliers, manufacturers, logistics providers, Wholesalers and retailers to deliver products across countries.
Many roles are involved in a supply chain:
- The supplier: Providing raw materials (e.g. cotton, steel, silicon).
- The manufacturer: Tuning the materials into products.
- Logistics providers: Handles storage, inventory, and transportation. Includes freight companies, warehouse operators, and customs agents.
- Distributors: Moving the goods through warehouses and shipping.
- Wholesalers & retailers: Selling the finished product to customers.
- Consumers: The final destination.
It is extremely beneficial to have an efficient supply chain as it could reduce costs, improve quality, and keep businesses competitive.
Disruptions within a supply chain such as a factory shutdown, labour shortage or shipping delay due to a missed flight can cause, delays in receiving the product, product shortages or price spikes.
This course aims to equip attendees with an understanding of how an effective supply chain delivers value, what to consider when disruptions occur, and strategies for managing risk.

Ts & Cs
*Any cancellations must be confirmed via email to training@birmingham-chamber.com and must be given within 5 working days clear of the original event date. For any cancellations given less than 5 working days before the event, fees will not be refunded. This also counts for non-attendance. If the course is due to run again in the future, delegates can opt to transfer to the next available date. A £50 fee will still be issued to cover the costs already incurred.
*Please note, the aim is always to finish at the time provided above, but please allow extra time depending on how many delegates are on the course, as there may be more questions for the trainer to answer.
