Chamber releases support grid for businesses looking to decarbonise
The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce have released a low-carbon support grid for businesses looking to grow low-carbon products and services, and decarbonise business operations.
The grid provides a one-stop-shop for low-carbon business support, detailing the financial and non-financial support available in the region and nationally.
The schemes listed in the grid focus on scaling low-carbon products and services across various industries and decarbonising business operations, across themes such as energy, transport, innovation and resource efficiency.
Details also include business eligibility and timelines on the schemes, including those from Chamber Patrons, Aston University (Energy Bioproducts Research Institute; Low Carbon SME) and University of Birmingham (ARLI, ATETA, and Climate innovation Platform Schemes).
Previous research from the GBCC and Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce (CWCC) demonstrated that lack of grant funding and uncertainty around the options available were amongst the top three barriers for businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact. This support grid can help businesses understand the scope of grants available and type of support options out there, helping overcome barriers.
Will Hargreaves, policy advisor at the GBCC, said: “Our research has demonstrated consistently that businesses prioritise financial support and expert guidance to tackle decarbonising their business and scaling their low-carbon products.
“We recognise that business owners do not have the time to research many of the schemes out there, and often want to simplify the research process, which is exactly why we 've developed this grid. ”
