Fraud expert to lead cybercrime webinar

A fraud expert from Western Union Business is leading a webinar following a surge in cyber-related crimes since the number of employees working from home has grown.

Alex Beavan (pictured), head of Fraud Training at Western Union will lead the Cybercrimes Threat in the Payments ' Sector webinar on Thursday 26 May at 11am.

He will cover the following topics:

  • Current cybersecurity threat and statistics
  • Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams and stages
  • Real fraud scenarios, cases, and prevention techniques
  • How we tackle payment fraud at WUBS

Alex will talk about different cybercrime threats and discuss business email compromise with real fraud scenarios and prevention techniques.

Mr Beavan said: “According to FBI IC3 data, cybercrime losses increased by 64 per cent in 2021.

“In a changing world where businesses and their employees have grown used to working from home, it 's no surprise that cybercrime is on the rise and business email compromise remains the dominant type of cybercrime. ”

During his career thus far, Alex has specialised in counter terrorism, counterintelligence, and terrorism as well as serious organised crime financial investigations. He has been involved in many of the most high-profile terrorism investigations in the last 25 years.
