Nominations are now open for four seats on the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce 's (GBCC) council.

Chamber Council is responsible for steering the work of the GBCC policy team and meets on a quarterly basis to discuss the latest national and regional political developments, vote on priority themes, and engage in constructive dialogue regarding key Chamber policy campaigns.

Once elected, members can serve up to three consecutive three-year terms. During this time, members will promote the work of the policy team, attend Chamber events, and share feedback from fellow Chamber members and business contacts at Chamber Council meetings.

Sitting on Chamber Council will provide elected individuals with the opportunity to forge new connections and build their profile across the Greater Birmingham business community.

Deb Leary (pictured), president of the GBCC, said: “Chamber Council is a fantastic opportunity for individuals from across Birmingham to represent our business community and meaningfully contribute to supporting business and promoting the region.

“Business needs a voice and as such I would encourage people from every sector, from every corner of Birmingham and from every background to apply to be that voice.

“After a difficult two years, in which businesses have dealt with a pandemic, soaring inflation and post-Brexit headwinds, there has never been a more important time to contribute to the Chamber 's policy and campaigning activity. ”

Those interested in applying should submit an application form - which can be accessed via the Chamber 's website - by 5pm on Friday 15, July. Applications received after this time will not be accepted.

Under the Greater GBCC 's Articles of Association, to be eligible, applicants must be a member of the Birmingham division of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and be able to demonstrate that they have been nominated by two other members of the Birmingham division.

Members of each of the nine other divisions of the GBCC are represented on Chamber Council by an individual nominated by their executive committees. For more information on joining a division 's executive committee, contact a relationship manager.

Should the number of applicants exceed the seats available, an election will take place from Monday 18 July to Friday 29 July. Successful candidates will be announced soon afterwards.
