Social Life Opportunities (SoLO) is looking for new trustees to join their board and help shape the vision and strategic direction of their charity.

Whilst particularly interested in hearing from individuals with social care, health, marketing, fundraising, digital and HR expertise, enquiries from all people passionate about improving the lives of people with learning disabilities are welcomed.

SoLO is a charitable organisation which 'embraces disability and empowers lives ' through the provision of high-quality leisure and social opportunities, as well as enhanced services such as personal assistant care, overnight breaks, and three Supported Living houses.

What started as an idea in 2000 has flourished into an organisation that employs 150 staff and supports over 800 adults, children and young people with learning disabilities every year.

SoLO Chair Jan Prior said: “People with learning disabilities are at the heart of SoLO. With a person-centred approach our aim is to support people in an environment that is comfortable, safe and secure enabling them to be stretched, challenged and take risks.

“We want to give our users skills and experiences to enable them where possible to make choices, have a say in their lives and enjoy socialisation with others. An additional benefit is that families who are caring for their offspring or siblings benefit from short breaks from their role.

“The role of the trustee is integral to our charity 's governance and we are looking for individuals who can bring their own expertise, life experience and viewpoint to the board, supporting us to make the best decisions on behalf of our stakeholders, whilst also ensuring governance and compliance is met. ”

Trustees are required to attend monthly board meetings held either face to face in Solihull or via zoom and will usually serve for a three-year term of office, with election/re-election taking place as part of the AGM process.
