The challenge for most businesses is understanding where win-win opportunities exist within their own company, and how they could be realised by working with others outside of their traditional sectors.

Birmingham Business Park, in partnership with International Synergies Limited, seeks to address this conundrum through hosting a resource matching workshop at the Solihull based park on Wednesday 22 March, 1pm to 2.30pm.

The free to attend workshop takes the form of a highly interactive session which presents itself as a kind of 'speed dating for waste '.

By encouraging delegates to talk about what wastes they produce, and the things they need to do their day-to-day business, matches are created between organisations such that one company 's waste can become another 's valuable input.

This has the dual benefit of cutting waste disposal costs, as well as helping companies on their own journey to becoming Net Zero.

Ian Humphreys, International Synergies chief operating officer, said: “The event is open to all organisations, great and small, across the Birmingham and Solihull region. Whatever the type of business, we all have some resources that others could put to more profitable use.

“This could be items like waste packaging materials, process offcuts, empty vehicle movements, under-utilised office space, or even knowledge and best practices to share. ”

The workshop also will seek to demonstrate the opportunities available to work with social enterprises and community groups that could make use of the things businesses would ordinarily throw away.

Lori Henebury, Marketing, Community and Business Development manager at Birmingham Business Park, said: “We 're very much looking forward to hosting what should be a fun session in which our local businesses can identify opportunities to work together to reduce costs and carbon emissions. ”
