Solihull Sixth Form College is launching a new course, with a T (Technical) Level course in Education & Childcare, due to start in September 2023.

T level are two-year qualifications that are equivalent to a student undertaking three A levels. They equip learners with core knowledge, skills and experiences that will enable them to work confidently in the industry of their choice or progress onto higher education to pursue a career in teaching.

These courses involve substantial work placements. The T level course in Education & Childcare involves three days College and two days on a placement every week.

The college has been offering a similar qualification - a CACHE Diploma in Childcare & Education - for many years.

This means while this course is new, the expertise in teaching such a qualification is well established at the college.

August 's examination results demonstrated that expertise, as the course had a 100% pass rate, and every learner achieved either an A* or A grade.

Education & Childcare teacher Lianne Alcott commented: “This is an outstanding route into a career working with children. The course involves 750 hours of real-life, hands-on work experience. It gives learners the skills they need to forge a successful career.

They can choose to either go straight into work or progress onto Higher Education before pursuing employment. I would urge any GCSE students who are thinking about a career in this area to come along to the college's Open Day on Saturday 15 October to find out more. Staff and students will be on hand to answer questions. ”

Learners and carers wishing to attend an Open Day must book an Eventbrite ticket via the College website at https://www.solihullsfc.ac.uk/applying/open-days/.

The college will be open from 9.30am to 3.30pm for the open day with the last entry scheduled for 2.30pm.

Open evenings will then take place on 23 November 2022 and 23 January 2023, for those who cannot make it in October.

Applications for this and the College 's other courses (offered at A level and BTEC) will open in mid-October via the College website.
