Halesowen College has announced its partnership with University of Bristol on the ‘Sleep Solved’ study.

The college is one of six partner schools and college across the West Midlands to be selected to be part of the study.  The study, which focuses on the relationship between sleep and mental health, aims to shed light on the impact of sleep problems on young people.

Sleep problems, including difficulties with falling asleep or staying asleep, can often be linked to mental health issues, around anxiety and depression. Conversely, poor sleep can also contribute to poor mental health. This study will consider the connection between the two and explore ways to improve both sleep and mental well-being in young individuals.

The programme will be offered to 1,000 young people aged 14-18 years throughout the UK, to help test and improve a sleep programme using a series of online interventions.  The results will be used to find out if the new interventions can help young people sleep well.

Dr Sarah Bennett, senior research associate in the School of Psychological Science at the University of Bristol said: “We hope that our new support programme will help young people to get the help they need."

Renate Broomhall, deputy designated safeguarding lead at Halesowen College, said: "We are thrilled to be partnering with Bristol University on this study. Understanding the link between sleep and mental health is vital for supporting the well-being of our students."
