Hospice celebrates fundraising record for local end of life care
A wave of chocolate-fuelled runners turned out for Birmingham Hospice’s annual Chocolate 5K fun run, raising an incredible £45,000 - the highest amount ever generated by the event.
Over 800 supporters laced up their trainers to run, walk, hop and skip their way through the route across Bournville, all while indulging in delicious chocolate treats along the way, raising an incredible amount for their efforts.
The fundraising milestone will make a huge impact for palliative and end of life care for the local charity.
Rebecca Richards, senior fundraising project manager at Birmingham Hospice, shared her gratitude: “The support for this event has been amazing and the energy and fundraising efforts of the 800 people taking part is truly humbling.
“The amount raised from this event equates to the cost of 85 days of specialist nursing support in our Inpatient Units for local people in the final weeks of their life. This will make a huge difference to those living with a terminal diagnosis.”
The event, known for its family-friendly atmosphere and feel-good focus, not only raised vital funds but also helped shine a light on the hospice’s work supporting people across Birmingham facing terminal illness.
Birmingham Hospice provides specialist care, including pain management and emotional support to over 670 patients every day. Events like The Chocolate 5K are crucial to sustaining these services, as the hospice relies heavily on charitable donations to fund its services.
Organisers are already planning for an even bigger and better Chocolate 5K next year, inviting the community to once again come together in support of a cause that touches so many lives.
