Jobs fair makes employment accessible to disabled community
National disability charity Sense is holding its Pan Disability Job Fair enabling employers to showcase their businesses within the disabled community.
Sense 's engagement with the disabled community has found that job fairs are inaccessible to disabled jobseekers and there is not enough awareness about employers who are Disability Confident, limiting opportunities for disabled jobseekers to engage with recruiters.
Working to change this this, the charity believe that no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, should be isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential.
Due to the success of Sense 's first Pan Disability job fair, where 250 disabled jobseekers engaged with 30 employers, the charity has extended this year 's specialist fair over two days to accommodate more businesses.
Sense will host the Pan Disability Job Fair in partnership with Severn Trent on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 April at their TouchBase Pears centre in Selly Oak, Birmingham.
Local businesses interested in the event are being invited to register their interest as a limited number of stands are available.
Carl Williams, Sense community fundraising manager said: “Hosting a stand at our job fair is a fantastic way to support local disabled people with getting into employment.
“It 's also a great opportunity for you to find out more about what it means to be a Disability Confident Employer, including gaining a better understanding of accessible recruitment practices and processes. ”
Hosting a stand is free of charge and places are filled on a first come first served basis.
