Logistics operators sign up for carbon-neutral future
Award-winning logistics training company TRS, the Road Haulage Association (RHA), and the West Midlands Combined Authority have partnered to address the carbon reduction skills gap.
Logistics operators in the West Midlands are already enrolling staff on the skills initiative.
The Transport Manager and Sustainability Champion Skills Bootcamp course is a 13-day training programme, delivered over five weeks.
It equips logistics leaders, transport managers, and other staff with the skills to meet governmental sustainability requirements and implement effective carbon reduction measures.
Candidates on the programme will also achieve RHA-delivered Transport Manager CPC qualification, typically costing around £1500.
The course teaches how to develop robust carbon reduction plans tailored for logistics firms. In addition, candidates acquire an understanding of sustainability as it applies to logistics.
On completion, they will be able to prepare their company for future carbon taxation, and know how to reduce business costs via sustainability measures.
Thanks to DfE funding, the course costs just £345.60 + VAT per person for SMEs and £1036.80 + VAT for large employers. This is a significant discount on the usual cost of £3456.
Kevin Birch (pictured), managing director of TRS said: “Developing vital carbon reduction skills in the logistics sector is not just an environmental imperative but a commercial one.
“This funded course provides an opportunity for logistics firms to meet both current and future sustainability requirements cost-effectively.”
"This is an incredible opportunity for organisations in the West Midlands," said Craig Allen, WRP & Supply Chain Director at Ceva Logistics.
"It gives us access to an important industry qualification that would normally cost well over £1000, at a fraction of the price."
Philip Johnson, commercial manager at Calderhead Temperature Controlled Logistics, shared his experience of the sustainability aspect: "This carbon reduction training received from TRS was very informative. As a 3PL, we fall under our customers’ Scope 3 emissions, so we have to demonstrate our carbon output and what we are going to do to reduce it."
To be eligible for this funded training, staff must be aged 19 or over, and live and/or work in the West Midlands Combined Authority area. They cannot have undertaken another Skills Bootcamp course during the current financial year
Funded places on this training programme are limited. Business interesting in securing places for their staff should leave their details on the TRS website or call Suzannah on 07841444538
