It’s easy to overlook the significance of this, but think about it—while so much about our world has evolved, adapted, and transformed over centuries, meditation has remained a steadfast companion. Why? Because there is simply no substitute for the gifts it offers. Nothing else, in its simplicity, can provide the same profound blessings that meditation bestows. And that’s what makes it so powerful—it’s not a fad or a trend. It’s a cornerstone of well-being that has endured for millennia.

My Path into Meditation

My introduction to meditation came in 1989, during a pivotal time in my life. I was living in London, having just returned from Australia, and found myself wrestling with the challenges of settling back into the city's fast pace. The stark contrast between the laid-back lifestyle of Melbourne and the intensity of London left me feeling ungrounded and disoriented. It was during this period of culture shock and emotional upheaval that a friend invited me to join her at a local Buddhist centre for a Tuesday evening talk and meditation session.

Little did I know that this simple invitation would lead to a profound transformation. After years of battling stress, anxiety, and bouts of depression, meditation became my refuge. For the first time in my 37 years, I experienced a sense of peace and stillness that had long eluded me. The practice offered not just a break from the constant mental noise but also a deep inner calm that felt like a lifeline in a storm.

 

My Experience with the Silva Method

Over the years, I’ve delved into many different meditation techniques, each offering unique insights and benefits. However, the practice that currently resonates most deeply with me is the Silva Method of Meditation. This approach has been particularly helpful in managing my busy, often restless mind.
