New rules of origins requirements for exporters to the EU
Firms who want to export to the EU tariff-free are reminded they must now meet the new rules of origin requirements, which came into full effect this month.
Until 31 December 2021, a temporary easing of these requirements was in place, enabling exporters to state the origin of goods without submitting complete evidence.
However, to be considered originating and qualify for a reduced rate of Customs Duty, businesses will now need to provide the complete customs declarations which identify the full origin of their goods as well as provide additional paperwork in order to qualify.
Those unable to evidence the origin of their goods must notify their customers to ensure preference is not claimed incorrectly.
Mandy Haque (pictured), international director at the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “Businesses already exporting or hoping to begin exporting to the EU will be able to take advantage of tariff-free trade, provided that they are able to produce the necessary documentation, which is why it is vital that businesses are reminded that easements for rules of origin requirements have now ended.
“The Chamber 's ChamberCustoms team delivers a reliable and timely customs declarations service for both exporters and importers across the UK, and I would strongly encourage those who may have found new complex trading rules confusing to utilise this service to ensure they can continue to trade smoothly.
“In addition we have some highly informative training courses to help businesses navigate through the changes and it is not too late to gain the knowledge to comply with the new rules. ”
