Panel to discuss workforce attraction and retainment at event

Business innovators are set to discuss the ways in which they are staying ahead of the curve in the search for talent.

Confirmed speakers for the event - 'Making success the norm ' - include Touchwood Shopping Centre Solihull 's general manager Tony Elvin and Patrick Joiner, managing director of The Institute of Sales.

Tony, also the president of Solihull Chamber of Commerce, has experience spanning across a range of sectors including hospitality, leisure and retail. Touchwood holds more than 100 businesses altogether.

Tony was praised in particular for his management of the shopping centre during the Covid-19 pandemic and the centre was awarded Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce 's Business of the Year earlier this year.

He also runs his own events business, The Wine Events Company, hosting tastings, pop-ups, collaborations and dinners across the region.

Patrick has more than 30 years ' experience working in the sales profession. After more than 10 years in sales and sales management in the publishing and exhibitions sectors, he spent seven years as chief executive of The Institute of Sales and Marketing Management.

For the last 16 years he has worked as a trainer, facilitator and coach, specialising in sales, sales management, and leadership. He was appointed his current position in September 2021.

The event will delve into the following questions in a workshop format, providing answers and practical takeaways:

  • What working conditions are you offering?
  • What personal development pathways are open to nurture and retain your workforce?
  • Are your organisation 's values aligned with societal trends towards workplace equality, diversity and inclusion?
  • Are you facing the dilemma of balancing short-term survival with longer term stability and growth?
  • Are your leaders in touch with employee concerns and aspirations?

Barry Hilton (pictured), managing director apprenticeship, Mercuri International, said: “We are so excited to be hosting an event exploring such crucial contemporary issues.

“Our panel is packed with experts to add the essential West Midlands flavour. Participants will be inspired and leave with ideas which can be immediately implemented in their own organisations. ”

Businesses small and large from across the West Midlands are being invited to attend the event on Thursday 22 September, 9am - 12:30pm, at Resorts World Birmingham.
