Responsible leadership in focus as Chamber campaign begins

A month-long Chamber campaign focusing on productivity and leadership gets underway this week - with the spotlight on responsible leadership.

Growth Through People aims to help Greater Birmingham firms boost productivity through improved leadership and people management skills.

Delivered by the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce with a range of partners, the campaign includes free training sessions, workshops and webinars alongside research and thought leadership content.

The 2021 campaign attracted around 400 delegates, as well as featuring 24 thought leadership blogs, advice from 16 local leaders in social media videos, and a four-episode mini podcast series.

The campaign hashtag reached over 300,000 accounts on Twitter.

This year is the Chamber 's sixth Growth Through People campaign.

Week one is Growth Through Responsible Leadership week and will feature an event and a webinar, alongside thought leadership blog and podcast content.

The first event, Responsible Leadership - the Future of Work, taking place at University College Birmingham tomorrow will discuss the various factors leaders and organisations may wish to consider in making responsible decisions about the future of work.

Panellists will discuss the nuances behind their own decisions about remote, flexible and hybrid working in their organisations, and research into re-designing working life around the way we work best.

Chaired by Lillian Elekan, head of membership at the GBCC, the event will feature insights from:

  • Eddie Fellows, Highway Network Director, Kier Highways Limited
  • Tara Tomes, Founder and Managing Director, EAST VILLAGE
  • Dr Rachel Lilley, Research Fellow, The Birmingham Leadership Institute, University of Birmingham

On Wednesday 2 March, a Growth Through People webinar, on Leading and Managing the Transition to Net Zero, will explore the tools needed to successfully lead and manage the implementation of change in your business, to help facilitate your transition to net zero.

This webinar will feature expert insights and advice from:

  • Rob McCracken, Head of Transformational Change, Curium Solutions
  • Will Hargreaves, Environmental Policy Adviser, Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce
  • Luke Strickland, Net Zero Advisory Lead (Buildings and Cities), Mott MacDonald

Growth Through People runs throughout March, culminating in a conference on 30 March at Eastside Rooms.

The confernce will explore further, exceptional perspectives on themes including responsible leadership, accessing and engaging talent, unlocking potential and harnessing resilience.

The 2022 Growth Through People campaign is sponsored by and delivered in partnership with Aston University, Birmingham City Council, South and City College Birmingham and the West Midlands Combined Authority.
