Sixth form students seek placement opportunities
Staff and students at Landau Forte Tamworth 6th Form are looking for local businesses to help youngsters onto the career ladder with the help of work placements.
The placements will form an integral part of students ' school experience as well as providing the opportunity to experience daily life inside a real work environment.
Starting in September 2023, Landau Forte students will be able to work towards T Level qualifications. T Levels are a more vocational equivalent to A Levels and are designed to help young people develop the knowledge, attitude, and practical skills which will see them thrive in the workplace.
Students taking T Levels will spend 80 per cent of their time in the classroom, learning the essential skills of their subject, and the remaining 20% in an industry placement where they can put these skills into action. This works out at around 45 days a year, either one day a week or in a more intensive block of time, where students work at local businesses as a member of the team.
The Sixth Form is offering T Levels in two specialist subject areas: Business & Administration and Education & Childcare. Each course will allow students to develop an understanding of the broad range of skills and knowledge relevant to the sector.
Landau Forte said: “The pandemic has hugely impacted how much exposure to the world of work young people have experienced, and now the Landau Forte team is looking to local businesses to help wherever possible.
“This has never been more important after the challenges of the last few years so please do consider if you can offer a Tamworth student a work experience placement.
“Not only will you be offering young people across Tamworth the opportunity to work on hugely important skills, but you 'll be playing your part in ensuring future talent continues to develop across the region. ”
The school is hosting a Business Breakfast at the Sixth Form Academy on Wednesday 26th April from 9am to 10am, where attendees will be able to talk through the placement delivery options, assessments and funding associated with the T Levels.
“If you or a business you know would like to attend and can open your doors to the young talent across Tamworth, please use the link LFATSF Business Breakfast, or contact Darren Bates, IAG Co-ordinator, at [email protected], ” the school added.
