The Snowball Community, creators of accessibility apps has launched the National Disabled Access Rating System (NDARS) for all business.

Designed to empower individuals with disabilities and promote awareness among businesses, NDARS sets a new standard for accessibility ratings, providing consumers with vital information to make informed choices about where to shop, dine, and access services.

From helping to ensure more disabled children can use their local playground to supporting assistance dog users and providing disabled people with the tools to be fully involved in their communities, NDARS is set to revolutionise how businesses and users access information.

Developed in collaboration with leading accessibility experts and disability advocates, NDARS offers a comprehensive and user-friendly rating system that assesses businesses based on their accessibility features and accommodation for individuals with disabilities, from wheelchair access and parking facilities to assistive technologies and sensory-friendly environments.

NDARS evaluates various aspects of accessibility to ensure that businesses meet the diverse needs of their customers. Local businesses, national chains and franchises have already signed up across the UK.

Simon Sansome, CEO at Snowball said: "At Snowball, we believe that access is a fundamental human right, and everyone deserves equal opportunities to participate fully in society.

"We have assessors based all over the UK carrying out assessments. With the launch of our national Snowball rating system, we aim to empower individuals with disabilities to navigate their communities with confidence while encouraging businesses to prioritise accessibility and inclusivity in their operations."

Key features of NDARS include:

• A standardised rating scale: Businesses are evaluated by a trained Snowball assessor on a scale of one to five Snowballs based on their accessibility features and accommodation.(Similar to a food hygiene certificate).

• User-generated reviews and feedback: Consumers can share their experiences and insights to help improve accessibility and inform others in the community.

• The Snowball mobile app: Offers an intuitive interface and a mobile app for easy access to ratings and reviews on the go.

In addition to providing valuable information to consumers, NDARS serves as a catalyst for positive change, inspiring businesses to enhance their accessibility efforts and create more inclusive environments for all.

By participating in NDARS, businesses demonstrate their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, while gaining visibility and recognition as leaders in accessibility.

Simon Sansome added: "We are thrilled to launch NDARS and embark on this journey toward a more accessible and inclusive future.

"Together, we can create a world where everyone, regardless of ability, can fully participate and contribute to their communities."
