Students depict lockdown in photography project
Photography students at Solihull Sixth Form College have depicted their experiences of lockdown in a photography project.
Year 12 A-level Photography students were set a documentary photography project to complete during the national lockdown this term.
Students were asked to present 24 photos that represented the Coronavirus lockdown, including picking their most successful six images to present.
Abiding to lockdown restrictions during the completion of the project, they were also encouraged to represent social distancing in their work, which meant showcasing their own space, daily exercise, weather and relationships, as well as the role of key workers.
They had to think about how they would frame their photographs, as no cropping or post-production work in Photoshop was permitted, with the exception of turning their photos black and white if they chose to.
Zoe Maksymiw, curriculum leader for Creative Arts and a teacher of Photography, commented: "Documentary photography describes any photos that attempt to record the world as it is. From wide-angle photographs of war to close-up snapshots of people on the street, these images can inform an audience about the hidden corners of contemporary life and even become part of the historical record.
The students produced some wonderful work from this interesting brief, showcasing the restrictions they and everyone else have been facing in recent weeks."
