The Tamworth Wellbeing and Cancer Support Centre are holding their annual Charity Christmas Ball on 4 December at Drayton Manor Park and are inviting businesses to support them, despite the event being officially sold out.

The Tamworth Wellbeing and Cancer Support Centre are looking for local businesses to sponsor tables for £100 each.

In return, businesses will receive: advertising on all of their social media channels and website, leaflets/business cards displayed on their sponsored table and in the foyer at the Christmas Ball, a mention on the evening, and the chance to win one month 's free advertising on Radio Tamworth.

The charity will also be holding two big raffles this Christmas, one at the Charity Ball and one for those people that are unable to attend the event. They are appealing for raffle prizes to help raise much needed funds for the Centre.

The charity recently hit the headlines when their ambassador Joe Lycett won £31,900 for them on Celebrity Catchphrase. Centre manager and friend of Joe, Paula Da-Silva, said: “How amazing was he? We are so lucky to have his support.

“The only downside to this is that I 've had comments from people suggesting that we no longer need public support because we have Joe - this couldn 't be further from the truth. I appreciate that almost £32k is a huge amount of money, and we are beyond grateful, but we are not a 'rich ' charity by any means. Our last physical fundraising event was our Christmas Ball in December 2019, our next one is in December this year. That means that we have had no fundraising events at all for exactly two years. In normal times we have at least one fundraising event a month. As a self-funded charity that is how we survived.

“It costs us around £3500 - £4000 a month to run the Centre, so Joe 's winnings will keep us going for eight months. If it wasn 't for this unexpected windfall, there is a strong chance we may have had to close the charity. All through lockdown, despite being closed, we still had bills to pay and rent to Tamworth Council which was a struggle when we were unable to fundraise.

“Thankfully during this period supporters of the charity stepped up and raised money on our behalf which we were extremely thankful for. Each individual person that donated has helped us to keep our doors open. When we say we are grateful for every single penny raised we genuinely mean it. So please don 't think we don 't need public support, we truly do. I like to think we are very transparent and open about the charity and anybody who donates to us is always more than welcome to pay us a visit to see how the money is spent. ”
