The Urban Growth Company 's (UGC) drive to transform The UK Central Hub in Solihull into one of the UK 's premier investment opportunities has taken another step forward with an internal promotion and a new appointment.

The UGC is a special-purpose delivery vehicle created to realise the full economic potential of the HS2 Interchange Station and related infrastructure.

On behalf of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) and supported by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), the UGC coordinates, facilitates and leads infrastructure investment to create a globally renowned point of connection and a major engine for economic growth on a regional and national scale.

Continuing their expansion as part of their delivery phase of HS2, UGC have made a number of new appointments.

Sue Barrett (pictured), who was previously commercial and contracts director has become chief operating officer, while Hayley Davis has joined as communications and engagement Officer.

The move highlights a step change within the organisation as it moves deeper into the project delivery stage of its vision to deliver transformational social and economic benefits associated with the arrival of HS2.

These changes will further strengthen the UGC team in its work in delivering strategically important projects at The Hub, as well as supporting its partners to complete their infrastructure projects that all combine to unlock the full potential of the 1,300-hectare site near the M42.

In her new role, Sue Barrett, will oversee the daily operations of the UGC including designing and leading operational strategies and policies, particularly those being delivered in partnership with third party organisations.

Hayley Davis, who has worked in communications for over ten years and has a background in public sector, education and housing, will support the head of communications to reach, engage and listen to the views of the UGC 's growing list of stakeholders.

Jonathan Bretherton, managing director at UGC, said: “In her work as commercial and contracts director, Sue has demonstrated an excellent ability to grasp complex situations and develop solutions that suit multiple parties while still delivering our own objectives for The Hub.

"This step up to COO is perfectly timed as we develop new processes and systems to support our delivery work.

“Hayley 's appointment is just as timely. As well as delivering projects on the ground, it 's important that we continue with our strategic communications and engagement work to bring stakeholders on this exciting journey with us. ”
