Visual arts work celebrated in exhibition
Visual arts students at Solihull Sixth Form College celebrated their work in an end of year exhibition this week.
Every student on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design Practice and A level Art, Craft & Design courses exhibited.
The work covered a huge range of disciplines and specialisms from Fine Art painting to Textile Design, from Photography to Animation and from Video to Installation.
It also explored a wide variety of subject matter and themes.
The Visual Arts department also handed out awards to students at the Private View, with prizes given for all four Visual Arts courses (BTEC Art & Design practice, A-Level Art, craft and design - graphics, photography and fine art pathways).
Among the students recognised for their outstanding work were Govinder Singh, who received the 'Star of the Department Award' for his commitment and contribution to the department and his cohort.
Students also received 'Certificates of Excellence' and prizes for several Live Brief projects.
The evening also included live music and compositions from Music A-level students and a very powerful performance by the Theatre-in-Education Company, which aimed to show support for Ukraine.
Creative Arts Curriculum leader Zoe Maksymiw said: “I'm unbelievably proud of the entire Creative Arts department.
“We have waited a very long time to put on this event and provide students with an authentic exhibition experience.
“The standard of the work shown was highly professional, and it was fantastic for visitors to see that our students are encouraged to make work that explores their passions and interests, with some really important issues being addressed. ”
