Waste management firm supports two causes in six-month charity drive
Suez Recycling and Recovery has launched a six-month charity challenge to support two life changing causes – British Heart Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Dubbed as ‘The Big Four’, the challenge is bringing together SUEZ teams across more than 300 sites in England and Scotland to get moving and get creative to raise funds.
The challenge, focused around the elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, runs until December 2025.
The project got a serious boost recently when members of SUEZ’s senior leadership team took on an 84-mile trek along Hadrian’s Wall, lasting four days, with the group tackling rough terrain and unpredictable weather.
The Big Four’s goal is to raise £100,000 through team-powered action.
It builds on the success of 2023, when SUEZ teams raised over £145,000, including £15,000 from a C-suite cycle ride to Paris.
The British Heart Foundation powers groundbreaking research to save and improve lives.
Partner charities have voiced their appreciation for this effort. British Heart Foundation’s Samantha Wilkins said: “Support like this helps power the research that saves lives. We can’t thank SUEZ teams enough.”
Since 1961, the support from donors has helped the foundation fund scientific breakthroughs that are keeping more families together today, from pacemaker technology and portable defibrillators to proving that statins can help save lives.
Macmillan Cancer Support has spent more than 100 years helping people living with cancer.
There are currently 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK, causing one in four deaths.
Flo McMullen of Macmillan Cancer Support said: “The number of people living with cancer is rising, and we can’t do what we do without partners like SUEZ.”
According to figures, there are almost 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK, with numbers expected to rise.
SUEZ recycling and recovery UK CEO John Scanlon said: “The big charity events are a brilliant way to bring us all together to give something back and support two amazing charities that we know have been there for so many of our colleagues and their families, and the communities where we are based.”
