Webinar provides update on 'right to work ' checks
Businesses can find out more about changes to 'right to work ' checks that have arisen following Brexit at a forthcoming Chamber webinar.
The 'Changes to Right To Work Checks ' webinar, held in association with West Midlands Combined Authority, takes place on Tuesday 24 August.
The UK government has made a number of important updates relating to right to work checks, with further change set to take place from the 1 September 2021.
On 31 August, the temporary concessions introduced during the pandemic, which enable employers to perform right to work checks virtually, will cease to apply.
This webinar will mainly focus on changes to the way in which EU citizens prove their right to work in the UK following the closure of the EU Settlement Scheme to most applications on 30 June.
Employers will receive advice and guidance around key areas of concern such as what to do if you discover an employee has not applied to the EU Settlement Scheme.
Businesses will also have the opportunity to ask any questions relating to the new UK immigration system.
Keynote speaker is Omer Simjee (pictured), managing partner and founder of Magma Legal.
Omer 's business immigration practice helps companies to bring overseas experts to work in the UK.
His firm also helps employers deal with tricky on-boarding issues for new staff, conducts audits of document checking procedures and also helps clients to understand what to do when an employee has lost the right to work.
Raj Kandola, head of policy at the Chamber, said: “There are a number of subtle policy developments related to Brexit which are likely to impact businesses moving forward - and right to work checks must figure highly for a number of businesses across the region.
“That 's why we are delighted that Omer will be sharing his extensive knowledge and expertise on the topic.
“I would urge businesses local businesses that are likely to be impacted by these changes to join us for an in-depth discussion on the topic and to ask relevant questions that will help to clarify any concerns that you might have around the checks that will be required moving forward. ”
The webinar is part of a series that the GBCC is hosting in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority in helping local businesses adapt to the new trading landscape following the UK 's departure from the European Union
