Wellbeing partnership to aid Birmingham businesses
A new wellbeing initiative has been launched for businesses in Birmingham.
The Birmingham Wellbeing Alliance (BWA) has been set up after a 'Thriving At Work ' study commissioned by the Government revealed that nearly half of all long-term absence or sick leave in the UK is attributed to mental health issues.
The initiative is being led by business support charity ChaplaincyPlus, who have announced that Tim Skene (pictured) will become project manager for the BWA.
Under Tim 's leadership, the BWA will offer businesses in the greater Birmingham area thought leadership and practical support including a listening service, all of which will enable business leaders to improve staff wellbeing.
Tim holds an economics degree and has experience in commodities and financial accounts management.
He has also held various senior positions in charities.
Tim said: “I am excited about taking the lead in this new initiative and using my experience as a transformational life coach in the financial sector, where I support senior managers with coaching strategies that minimise stress and enable people to become more confident and effective.
“After operating within highly stressful work environments that affected my career and personal relationships, I understand systemic issues in institutions. This understanding informs the support I offer individuals and leaders.
“I read in a CV Library survey, that nearly half of professionals questioned said that they have considered resigning from a job because it impacted their mental health!
“I 'm looking forward to collaborating with businesses to make sure Birmingham bucks this trend. ”
St Philips Chambers who are among the founder members of the Alliance have been partnering with ChaplaincyPlus over the last four years.
Joe Wilson, Chambers director said: “ChaplaincyPlus has provided us with an outstanding Listening Service, giving our barristers and staff team a safe confidential space to talk.
“As a Chambers we are passionate about good wellbeing provision and being part of the Birmingham Wellbeing Alliance will assist our people to continue to flourish in the workplace. ”
Steve Bavington, ChaplaincyPlus executive director, said: “This appointment enables us to fulfil a key part of our charity's strategy, to support and inspire the Birmingham business community to live life to the full.
“Tim has led, managed and mentored individuals and teams for 25 years and is passionate about seeing them gain greater confidence in their performance and workplace leadership.
Becoming a BWA member entitles each business to a personal one-to-one wellbeing listening service for staff, support for internal MHFAiders through the 'Birmingham Wellbeing Forum '.
Membership also includes access to workshops and training plus other proactive, positive interventions to support mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing within the workplace.
Lead wellbeing champions within member organisations will also benefit from advice and specialist input to achieve sustainable improvements.
