YMCA plans Easter campaign to raise foodbank funds

YMCA Burton will focus on raising money for the ever-growing demand for their foodbank through this year 's YMCA Easter campaign.

This year, to date, their foodbank has issued over 600 bags of emergency food. That equates to around 8450 meals.

This is a 91 per cent increase compared to last year. People using the foodbank are citing reasons such as high energy bills, unemployment, and delays in benefit claims.

They are kicking off their Easter campaign with their Apne curry night on the 14 March. For several years, Apne 's owner Mr. Hussain has been running dinners for local charities and the YMCA feel honoured to be allowed to host their evening this month. A handful of tickets remain, they cost £20 and can be purchased from the YMCA website.

The next event is a Fashion and shopping evening which is being held on the 5 April at Riverside Church, High Street, Burton. There will be lots of variety of styles at heavily reduced prices, from High Street retailers including Next, New Look, Monsoon, River Island and many more. The tickets are just £5 each.

Paula Senior, Fundraising & Partnerships manager for YMCA Burton said: “We are looking forward to holding these two popular events as part of our Easter campaign. The Fashion and shopping event will be perfect for an after-work unwind where you can have the pick of High Street brands from your seat. At Apne, Mr. Hussain is once again graciously and generously hosting a delicious four-course meal and there will be entertainment by brilliant local singer Chris Baldwin.

"The money raised will go towards our vital Foodbank service which is seeing a huge rise in usage already this year. ”
