What motivated you to join the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce?
We've been Chamber members for a while now, longer than the time that I've been here at FareShare Midlands. The decision was unanimous that we needed to increase our business connectivity.
How have you benefitted from membership
I've personally benefitted from the connections that I've made from the Chamber - I've been involved with meetings, forums and expos. From a professional point-of-view, FareShare Midlands has really benefited from the networking connections. We've also been nominated on various occasions for 'Charity of the Year' - including within the Chamber as well.
What opportunities have you had as a result of membership?
There are many opportunities available and you've got to grasp them with both hands. The Brumbassador 'behind the scenes' event that we hosted earlier this year was a great opportunity for us to showcase what we do as a charity and for other Chamber members to come along and see how we redistribute the food, and, more importantly, see the impact of how we get the food out. It was also an opportunity to meet with new and existing colleagues from the Chamber.
Why would you recommend the Chamber to other businesses?
I would say: make the most of your Chamber membership. If you decide to join, whether you're a solo Chamber member, a one-man band, or a very big organisation, try to make the most of your membership. Whatever you've paid, go to the events, go to the forums, and ask for introductions if you're able to do that. Have a plan before you go to those events and try not to feel overwhelmed. Go with somebody you know or perhaps arrange to meet somebody who will already be there. But take the plunge! Join and try to use your membership as much as you can.
