What motivated you to join the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce?
I had heard that the Chamber might be beneficial to small businesses but I wasn't sure exactly how. Our business was still very new and I was looking for a bit of direction and support with decision-making. After attending one of the start-up events and a very helpful conversation with our relationship manager I quickly decided to become a member.
Can you share a specific instance where Chamber membership directly benefited your business?
By far the biggest benefit of my Chamber membership has been participating in the Start-up Academy. The insights I have gained from all the speakers have been invaluable and the structure of the course meant that I have gained a really well-rounded crash course in every area of running a small business.
How has the Chamber helped you connect with other businesses or clients?
My relationship manager, Jayne, will sometimes set-up specific connections with other members who are in a complimentary industry or who are in a similar position to us. I have made some brilliant friends as well as business connections this way. She also has a rolodex of names if I have a specific problem that needs fixing, such as support with IT. We also found our lovely accountant, Amina, through the Chamber.
What have you achieved as a result of becoming a member?
Greater confidence in decision-making and a brilliant support network of like-minded fellow business owners.
Why would you recommend the Chamber to other businesses?
It is easy to feel alone and at sea as a small business owner. The Chamber provides a feeling of community along with plenty of brilliant advice and resources.
