How has being part of the Chamber community supported you as a leader, not just in business?
I can honestly say it’s the opportunity to build my network and also have an impact on the local business community. Together with some other notable business people from across the Birmingham business community and the Chamber we created and launched the Black Business Collective in 2024. This is a subscriber network offering Black business owners and professionals a platform to meet, learn, keep connected and find opportunities.
What does your organisation do – and what’s your role as partner?
We provide legal solutions to private, public and third sector businesses and organisations as well as to individuals and entrepreneurs based regionally, nationally, and beyond. I’m a litigator by trade and I also am head of our Birmingham office.
What’s been the most rewarding part of being a female business owner?
Being able to inspire other women, particularly those from underrepresented communities, that it is possible to reach a senior leadership position at an international law firm…and still be your authentic self.
Have you had a moment where you felt particularly proud to represent women in your sector? What happened?
I’m not a big fan of social media in the widest sense, but I am a big fan of LinkedIn. Using this social media platform, I try to be as visible as I can. I post about all sorts of things from my career journey to things relating to my leadership style. Whilst often my posts are my musings, I know that they connect with the audience they are intended for, and what makes me really proud is when, in the office, at events or in the street, women take a moment to tell me that my content has had an impact on them.
In what ways do you think networks and communities, like the Chamber, matter for women in business?
Such networks and communities are vitality important as they provide a focus on the real issues which affect women in business. Also women can benefit from the support and advocacy which the Chamber provides.
As a woman in business, I’ve learnt that to succeed we need the support of others as we cannot do it alone and the Chamber is a great place to get that support.
