£22.8m fund has potential to 'revitalise Burton' - comment
A cash injection of £22.8million has the potential to revitalise and rejuvenate Burton.
That's the view of Chris Plant, Burton and District Chamber of Commerce divisional director.
He has made the comments after the completion of the regeneration of Burton's High Street, finished in July.
Funding for the regeneration came from the Government's Stronger Towns programme.
Following the revamp, Chris is urging the public to celebrate the opportunity associated with the rest of the Stronger Towns Fund awarded to Burton, £22.8million, and the opportunities to make huge investments in the town for the future.
He said: "Burton is a town interwoven with history and heritage. In every inch of this town, you 'll find remnants of our iconic brewing industry and people that are immensely proud to be Burtonians.
"Our pride and history is special, but that doesn 't mean we should rest on our laurels nor stand still in an ever-changing world.
"As part of my role at the Burton and District Chamber of Commerce, I 'm privy to lots of conversations and talk on economics, trade and investment. Many towns and places like Burton are yearning, crying out for investment right now in a bid to recover from the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We, in Burton, have an opportunity to make huge investments in our town right now, and secure a prosperous economic future, not just for our businesses but for everyone who calls Burton home.
"That opportunity is through the £22.8 million secured for Burton via the Stronger Towns Fund.
"This cash injection has the potential to revitalise and rejuvenate Burton. We must all get behind this vision.
"This money has the potential to develop new facilities, improve connections to the town centre, elevate our visitor numbers, and drive our local economy forward.
"Developments will protect our key assets and set us up for a bright future filled with prosperity. We have the chance to put Burton firmly on the map, and remind the public why this town is so important and iconic.
"We 've never had quite such a lucrative and exciting opportunity, as we do in these regeneration plans, laid before us.
"It is imperative that we all work together, get behind Burton and celebrate that we have an opportunity to revitalise our town using this £22.8million."
