'Slip into slippers ' for Older People 's Day

Charity Age UK Solihull is inviting Solihull businesses and residents to slip into slippers today to help raise much-needed funds.

Every year the charity asks local schools, businesses, community groups and individuals to don their cosiest footwear for the day and make a small donation to mark UN International Day of Older Persons and UK Older People 's Day, which fall on Saturday 1 October this year.

Now in its ninth year, Slip Into Slippers aims to celebrate older people and the valuable contribution they make to our society, while raising funds to help Age UK Solihull to support those who need them most.

In 2021, over £1,840 was raised from the campaign, with ten local schools and businesses taking part.

Age UK Solihull is a local charity which helps over 10,000 older people in the borough each year.

All money raised stays in Solihull to help the charity offer advice, information and practical support to the older people in the borough through services including befriending, social clubs, gentle exercise classes and home support.

Rebecca Jacob, digital marketing and fundraising manager at Age UK Solihull, said: "Slip Into Slippers is a really fun campaign which anyone can get involved in. Whether you are at home, at work or somewhere else this Friday - as long as it is safe to do so, you can give your feet a treat and help raise funds.

"If everyone donates just £1 each it can help us make a real difference to older people in the Solihull borough."
