There are just 50 days to go until the start of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games - and the Chamber is stepping up its activity to help businesses prepare.

Today marks the 50-day countdown to the Games opening ceremony which takes place at the revamped Alexandra Stadium in Perry Barr.

As part of preparations to help businesses maximise Games opportunities, the Chamber has been working closely with Games organisers, partners and stakeholders to provide relevant information.

The latest of these initiatives is a webinar regarding the visitor economy on 15 June (11am to midday).

The Chamber is partnering with the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee and the West Midlands Growth Company to bring members up to speed with the latest insight and information.

This will include an insight visitors and likely areas to experience higher footfall from Games related activities, as well as information on free training and support available for visitor economy businesses.

This event is particularly useful for hospitality, retail and wider visitor economy businesses looking to understand Games visitor patterns and opportunities.

Confirmed speakers are David Grady (chief financial officer, Birmingham 2022) and Alicia Winfield O'Hare (tourism industry 9ead, West Midlands Combined Authority).

Henrietta Brealey, chief executive of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “With just 50 days to go to B2022, final pre-Games preparations are ramping up at a fast pace.

“We know how important it is for our visitor economy members, and those that work with and advise them, to have the latest intelligence on expected visitor numbers and behaviours to support their own planning and make the most of the opportunities available.

"We are delighted to be working with the B2022 Organising Committee and West Midlands Growth Company on this briefing.

"As well as connecting our members into local opportunities we're also continuing our work to develop global opportunities too.

“In two weeks time our Greater Birmingham Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Ghana-Birmingham business Forum with the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce. ”
