Academies to welcome Year 9 students from September 2026
WMG Academy Trust has announced that from September 2026, both the Coventry and Solihull academies will be expanding their admissions to include Year 9 students for the very first time.
The important development means even more young people will have the chance to benefit earlier from the Trust’s innovative, industry-led curriculum, cutting-edge facilities and strong employer partnerships.
By joining in Year 9, students will experience an extra year of unique technical education and build a solid foundation in STEM and technical disciplines, giving them a head start toward future success and positive destinations.
What does this mean?
- Early access to the Trust’s STEM curriculum
- More time for technical learning and projects
- Access to employer partner engagement learning activities and specialist, industry standard equipment a year early
- Access to a broad and balanced foundation year curriculum with a STEM focus before specialising their options for Year 10 study
- Smooth transition into Year 10 from a solid knowledge and skills base
