A senior client manager is swapping spreadsheets for a sleeping bag as she prepares to spend a night outdoors in support of YMCA Burton's annual sleepout fundraiser.

Alexander Accountancy senior client manager Lucy Cooper and her 17-year-old daughter Lauren will take on the challenge and spend a night under the stars at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium on Friday, November 6.

The annual sleepout organised by YMCA Burton aims to raise funds and awareness to support local people facing hardship or without a safe space to call home.

Lucy said: “A friend of mine had taken part in the challenge in the past, so when the opportunity came up, I jumped at the chance to sign up.

“My daughter Lauren is no stranger to big challenges to raise funds for good causes. She recently visited Kenya to help build schools and raise money for the communities over there.

“As a mum and daughter team, we want to stand in solidarity with those who face the uncertainty of not having a safe, warm place to call home.

“We know how fortunate we are to have a roof over our heads, enough food to eat, and the support of friends and family. At the same time, we are aware that many people in Burton and the surrounding area are not so fortunate.

“I’d love to raise at least £1,000 for YMCA Burton. I’m hoping that by sleeping rough for just one night will raise awareness and funds to allow the charity to continue their great work.”

Alexander Accountancy has been a long-term supporter of YMCA Burton, raising £7,750 in 2025/26 through a number of fundraising events including an annual charity quiz night, crazy golf day and Burton Rugby Club fundraising event.

The company has taken part in the annual sleepout challenge for the last two years, raising £1,160 which helped YMCA Burton continue to deliver vital services through their Life Change Fund, including family mediation, counselling, client activity days, and food bank donations.
