Accountants continue Birmingham expansion with new partner appointment
Leading audit, accountancy, tax, and advisory firm Bishop Fleming has appointed a new partner to its Birmingham office.
Taj Lalli, a former KPMG director, will join Bishop Fleming on 1 September as corporate finance partner, focusing on deal-related activities, including mergers and acquisitions, and providing expertise in this area to support the firm's growth and client needs.
This appointment marks the third senior hire in the Birmingham office in just over three months, as the firm accelerates its growth in the Midlands. And the partners will soon be joined by a strengthened team at all levels, including its first intake of apprentices.
Taj brings over two decades of experience in corporate finance to the firm, having begun his career at KPMG in 2001, where he specialised in mergers and acquisitions and mid-market transactions. He’s since advised numerous private companies on successful exits via trade sales and private equity deals.
With expertise across a variety of sectors and strong connections to Birmingham, Taj will focus on supporting businesses in the Midlands, leveraging his understanding of the region’s opportunities - from Birmingham’s growing role as an industrial and trading hub to the transformative impact of infrastructure projects such as HS2.
His appointment reflects Bishop Fleming’s commitment to expanding its deal advisory capabilities, strengthening its competitive position in a crowded marketplace and delivering strategic, high-quality advice to clients.
Taj Lalli said: “I’m excited to be joining Bishop Fleming as its expansion into Birmingham builds impressive momentum.
“I was drawn to the firm by its clear conviction and commitment to growth, because in a market that can feel fragmented, the firm’s focused strategy and willingness to fully invest in its ambitions really stood out to me.
“I’m eager to bring my experience in mergers and acquisitions to help our clients in the Midlands navigate opportunities and achieve their goals. Birmingham is a city on the rise, so I look forward to working with our team to strengthen our presence and support the businesses driving that growth."
The move is a key part of Bishop Fleming’s Better Growth vision, which has already doubled the size of the business in recent years and now targets £200m+ revenue and over 2,000 people through sustainable organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
With four internal promotions, Taj’s appointment will take the number of new partners to 10 this year alone, with the firm reaching 48 partners.
Over 70 apprentices will join later this year, taking its headcount to over 550 people, and the business has plans to add hundreds more people to its headcount over the next few years.
A significant number of these roles will be based in Birmingham; in the firm’s recently expanded Bristol office; and the firm’s fantastic new office in Winslade Park, Exeter, which opened in April.
Bishop Fleming’s Birmingham office lead, Mark Taylor, said: "We’re thrilled to welcome Taj to Bishop Fleming and to our new Birmingham office. His outstanding track record in mergers and acquisitions will be a huge asset to our clients across the Midlands. Taj brings not only deep expertise but also a clear vision for positively promoting Birmingham and its business community.
“His commitment to building strategic alliances with key figures and organisations aligns perfectly with our ambition to strengthen the city’s profile, attract investment, and create opportunities for local businesses. We’re confident his skills, connections, and energy will help drive our growth and impact in the region."
