Grant McKnight Accountants - based in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield - are continuing their growth by taking advantage of the government-backed Kickstart Scheme.

Through the Kickstart programme, which provides funding to create new jobs for 16 to 24-year-olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long-term unemployment, Emily Kearney (pictured) has joined the Grant McKnight team as an administrator.

Managing director Joanna Drinkwater, who has recently been part of the judging panel for the 2021 Future Faces and BYPY Awards - an event run by Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce to promote the achievement and resilience of young professionals - said the process has had a positive impact on the business and given Emily the opportunity to enter a new industry.

Joanna said: “We are delighted to welcome Emily to the team as she learns how to handle client calls, process on boarding and run finance checks.

“Emily came from a retail background but straight away during the interview process we felt she was a great fit and already after her first month in post she has settled in really well. ”

Emily is looking forward to learning new skills in the accountancy sector in a position that will be 100 per cent funded by the scheme for the first six months.

She said: “The first day I started at Grant McKnight was amazing and, having not been able to find work throughout lockdown, I 'm so excited to make the most of this opportunity and get to know the Grant McKnight team and their clients. ”
