Activist ties the knot in 'second home'

Malala Yousafzai married her partner, Asser Malik, this week during a Nikkah ceremony in Birmingham.

Malala is renowned for her activism and is a leading human rights campaigner. She became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17 and went on to study at Oxford University.

The 24-year-old was just 15 when she was targeted by the Taliban for speaking up for girls ' education rights.

Surviving the assault and recovering from her near-fatal injuries, Malala and her family decided to move to Birmingham.

Since relocating, she has called the city “a second home ” so it is no surprise that she and her partner, a manager with Pakistan Cricket Board in Birmingham, shared the intimate ceremony within their local area.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner shared the news of her marriage on twitter. She said: “Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life.

“We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead. ”

Both Malala and Asser and avid cricket fans, Asser having worked in an amateur cricket league in Pakistan and the couple are locals at their resident cricket ground at Edgbaston. Celebrating their Nikkah, Malala and Asser followed in their cricket team 's tradition and did a victory cake cutting.
