Our first GBYPY Awards 2023 winner to talk us through their experience of winning their award is Adam Gadsby, who won our Future Faces Ambassador Award 2023.

What is your name, and what is your role and your place of work?

Adam Gadsby, I am head of Operations at PI-KEM Ltd.

Were you nominated by someone else for an award, or did you nominate yourself, and why?

I was strongly encouraged to nominate myself by several members of the senior leadership team at PI-KEM, and friends id met through my attendance at future faces events.

How did you find the application and interview process?

The application process was very easy, all I had to do was answer a few questions about myself, my experience with FF, and what id do with the common purpose leadership course, if I were to win. The hardest part was trimming the answers down to fit in the word limits!

How did it feel to win your award?

Winning the award came as a complete surprise, I didn’t feel like I had done much to deserve the recognition. However, it was extremely rewarding to find out how much FF appreciated my efforts to promote the network.

What impact did winning your award have on your career?

Winning the award has had a huge impact on my career, since receiving the award, I have taken part in panel discussions, podcasts, joined the future faces committee and been featured in the chamber link magazine, this has helped me raise my presence in the region, meet lots of new contacts and boost my confidence significantly. I was also able to attend the Common Purpose Leadership programme, for high potential future leaders, which was fantastic, teaching me new skills and leadership methods focused on cultural intelligence and allowing me to expand my network with professionals from across the UK.

What advice would you give to those applying for the Greater Birmingham Young Professional of the Year Awards 2024?

Just do it, I’m sure there are many more professionals reading this, who like me, don’t think they deserve an award for their work, but I can guarantee you’re doing more than you realise. So apply, reach out to your peers and colleagues and ask them to provide some quotes for you, to support your application. Even if you don’t win, you’re likely to get some feedback which helps you develop your career, what do you have to lose?

Where can people get in touch with you if they want to have a chat about the application and interview process, winning an award etc.?

I’m at most FF events, so please come and say hi, I’d be happy to answer any questions you have! Alternatively, you can find me on LinkedIn.
