Anniversary dinner to remember Botham 's Ashes
Edgbaston will host a special sporting dinner marking the 40th anniversary of the epic England v Australia Ashes Test match that took place in 1981.
The Sporting Club - the business club for lovers of sport who live at Edgbaston in the 501 lounge - as well as elsewhere in London, Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds, have organised this never-to-be-repeated celebration featuring all the surviving players including Lord Ian Botham (pictured), Sir Geoffrey Boycott, David Gower, Graham Gooch and Mike Gatting.
The Edgbaston Test match was the fourth in the series of six games and saw England take a 2-1 lead after Botham's remarkable haul of five wickets for one run in 11 balls destroyed the Australian batting line up.
Bob Willis, the Warwickshire legend who passed away earlier this year, also played his part.
The function will feature a three-course dinner with wine, following a drinks reception, plus footage of the game, many interviews with all the players and fund raising for Beefy's Charity Foundation.
